The Day After - Planning for the Transition
from School to Life
The Putnam Partnership for Special Needs
(PPSN) will be hosting its first annual Transition Fair
on March 23, 2010 to provide families of children
with special needs, ages 14 21, information on the transition process
from school to adult life and services.
Keynote speaker Adrienne Arkontaky, Esq., a special
needs planning attorney, along with a panel of agency representatives will
present information on p ost-secondary education, vocational education,
integrated employment, continuing and adult education, adult services,
independent living, and community participation as some of the options students
with disabilities will need to consider when transitioning from school to
community life.
The Fair is open to families of adolescents with
disabilities in Putnam and Northern Westchester and will be held at the
BOCES campus in Yorktown Heights from 6:00 8:30 PM.
Registration and networking will begin at 6:00 PM in
the Student Services Building, followed by the keynote address at 6:30.
Breakout sessions with panels representing local, state and federal agencies
will share information about housing, medical care, legal services, recreation
and post-secondary options.
Light refreshments will be served.
